Check PriceAs I indicated earlier, the REI Co-Op Magma Trail Quilt 30° comes highly recommended as one of the finest sleeping bags that can be purchased in the year 2023. Due to the high down fill power of 850 that is included inside this sleeping bag, it has been shown to have an exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio.
It is also quite lightweight, but despite this, it will keep you wonderfully warm in temperatures as low as 30 degrees while still allowing you to move around freely in the sleeping bag without limiting your options.
In spite of the fact that it is a bit on the pricey side, I feel that it offers excellent value for the money, and the fact that it is less costly than the Sea to Summit versions is a wonderful benefit!
In general, I would not think twice about recommending this sleeping bag to you; while it was built with males in mind, there is also a variant that is made specifically for females.

Check PriceThe Sea to Summit Ascent ASCII 15° is a sleeping bag that has been tried and tested, and it has been included on several occasions on lists of the best sleeping bags for men in 2023. Because it is filled with 750 fill power down, this sleeping bag provides exceptional warmth and insulation.
In addition, the water-repellent treatment technique that it has counteracts the adverse effects that water has on textiles made of down. When camping in cooler weather, a sleeping bag with 750-fill power down is an ideal grade to look for since it ensures that you will have enough insulation and that you will sleep comfortably.
One thing I really love
This sleeping bag has a large hood that is ideal for accommodating an additional camping pillow for the purpose of providing additional comfort and support to the neck.
Sea to Summit has designed the Ascent 15°F sleeping bag with three zippers. If you plan to use this sleeping bag in areas that experience cold weather on a regular basis, then you will appreciate the built-in phone pocket that has been included.
This pocket will help maintain a consistent temperature for your phone, preventing it from losing battery life as a result of the cold weather. The shell of the sleeping bag is constructed from 20-denier nylon, which gives it a somewhat silky feel; although some people like this material, it isn’t necessarily for everyone. Some individuals are fans of this material.
This sleeping bag may not be suitable for you if you tend to move about quite a bit while you’re asleep, since it may get rather slippery. In spite of this, the sleeping bag is equipped with a number of handy features, including as an enlarged hood and draught tubes, that work to reduce the amount of heat that is lost while you are sleeping in low conditions.
These features serve to keep you as warm as possible. The sleeping bag is perfect for usage in “three seasons,” which means that it will function admirably in the spring, summer, and fall of the year.
You might find that you are able to use it during exceptionally cold climates, depending on how cold it gets during the winter, but you will most likely want to pack additional camping gear that is designed specifically for use in extreme weather conditions. If the winter is particularly cold, you might be able to use it.

Raxinbang Sleeping Bag 300T Polyester Taffeta Outdoor Sleeping
Taffeta,Polyester,Cotton Material: lining (300T plain polyester taffeta), fabric (300T water-repellent diamond-shaped polyester taffeta), filling (high quality hollow cotton)
Check PriceI included the Sea to Summit Flame Ultralight 15° in my round-up owing to its remarkable performance in cold weather; it was ranked as the finest women’s sleeping bag across a large variety of internet evaluations, and so I thought it would be appropriate to include it.
It has a “comfort rating” of 15 degrees Fahrenheit, but it has been known to operate effectively in temperatures as low as 9 degrees Fahrenheit. Therefore, I would not hesitate to recommend that you carry this on an excursion that would take place in cold weather.
This sleeping bag is the woman’s version, although the only true reason for that is the height constraints. The long version of this model is ideal for someone who is up to 5 feet 10 inches tall (179 centimeters).
When compared to prices of other sleeping bag models are comparable, this one is much more expensive. However, as I’ve said in a previous paragraph when it comes to purchasing a new sleeping bag, you do pay for quality.
Although the prices of many other travel accessories might range widely from one another, there is a significant gap between the quality of a low-cost sleeping bag and an expensive one.
This is because it will be constructed out of a variety of components, one of which being down filling of varying qualities and quantities; the overall quality of the sleeping bag will be directly proportional to the fill power of the down utilized.
Because this sleeping bag has an amazing down fill of 850, it is fair to claim that it is constructed from the best grade down and, as a result, it will perform much better in colder environments.

- The warmth-to-weight ratio is excellent
- Down fill power is extremely high
- The price is quite high

4. Therm-a-Rest Hyperion 20°– best lightweight
Top Product
Therm-a-Rest NeoAir UberLite Ultralight Backpacking Sleeping Pad
Tapered design reduces weight without compromising warmth Inflates in less than two minutes by blowing into valve, and packs to the size smaller than a one-liter water bottle
Check PriceThe Therm-a-Rest Hyperion 20° is an excellent candidate for your next sleeping bag since it not only has an impressively low weight but also has the highest down fill power on our list of the best sleeping bags.
It also makes the most effective use of warmth, and the down is distributed throughout the bag in such a way as to provide you warmth exactly where you want it the most, such as close to your feet and at the top.
However, due to the fact that 70 percent of the filling is pushed along the top and sides of the bag, while only 30 percent is positioned at the back, it is quite likely that you will need to utilize a sleeping pad in conjunction with this bag.
Because of this, you are going to require a sleeping pad in order to keep your head warm while you are sleeping. The sleeping bag also features a zipper that runs the length of the bag, making it simple to get in and out of the bag without affecting the amount of heat that is kept within the bag overall.
It’s doubtful that you’ll find a high-performance sleeping bag that’s as lightweight as the Therm-a-Rest Hyperion, so if you’re looking for a backpacking sleeping bag, this is the one to get!

5. Kelty Cosmic Down 20 – best budget
Top Product
Kelty Cosmic 20 Degree Down Sleeping Bag
A draft tube behind the 60″ two-way locking anti-snag zipper and an insulated hood enhance the thermal efficiency of the Cosmic 20 Degree bag. A polyester taffeta liner provides internal comfort. Other features include a small pocket to keep electronics handy and a naturally-shaped foot box.
Check PriceThe Kelty Cosmic Down 20 wins the prize for best budget choice since it is both one of the most reasonably priced and one of the finest sleeping bags in 2023 that are included on our list.
It is not the finest sleeping bag in terms of warmth-to-weight ratio, but it does still perform well to a lower limit temperature rating of 20 degrees Fahrenheit. It is made from a mix of down-fill power of 600 (83 percent) and synthetic fibers (17 percent).
There are other models on our list, such as the Sea to Summit sleeping bags, that perform somewhat better in their temperature ratings; nevertheless, the Kelty Cosmic provides you with a number of other wonderful qualities at a price that is reasonably reasonable.
If you’re looking for a sleeping bag for your next camping trip, consider this one. The Kelty Cosmic 20 has a shell made of nylon taffeta that is both soft and sturdy, which many of the online reviews praised as a great aspect of the backpack.
Due to the fact that the sleeping bag is constructed out of both down and synthetic fibers, it is not nearly as lightweight as some of the other sleeping bags on the market, which means that it is quite cumbersome to transport in a backpack.
However, since the Kelty Cosmic 20 is so reasonably priced, you are able to rationalize carrying this additional weight. As a result, you are in a position to make an investment in a tent that is lighter, which will help you achieve a better overall balance of weight in your pack.
- Affordably priced
- Pocket to stash your phone
- It packs down pretty small
- Compared to some of its competitors, it has a lower warmth-to-weight ratio

5 1/4IN spacing/continuous baffles which encircle the bag from zipper to zipper and allow you to shift the down insulation to fit your ideal temperature 1 lbs. 13 oz. total weight and 59IN/38IN shoulder/foot Girth
Check PriceIf you are going camping or trekking in a place that is known for its chilly weather, then the Western Mountaineering UltraLite sleeping bag should be your first and only choice for a sleeping bag buddy.
As a result of its remarkable goose-down fill power of 850+, this sleeping bag tops the list of the best sleeping bags in 2023, making it an ideal choice for use in environments where the temperature is low.
The fact that this Western Mountaineering sleeping bag includes a down-filled draught collar, which ensures that the warmth is maintained throughout the night, is another feature that a lot of people like about it.
When placed to the test, this sleeping bag performed at its best at temperatures ranging from 10 degrees Fahrenheit to 55 degrees Fahrenheit; just to give you an idea of what kind of results you may anticipate in different environments.
The sleeping bag has been designed with a reduced shoulder girth to provide an even more innovative approach to the maintenance of body heat. If you have wide shoulders, however, this may not be the best option for you since it helps to trap in extra heat.
This sleeping bag is created with ardent campers and backpackers in mind, so if you aren’t already an experienced outdoor adventurer, you probably shouldn’t buy this model since it is rather pricey and you won’t get much use out of it.
If, on the other hand, you are interested in making an investment in a high-quality sleeping bag that has a good warmth-to-weight ratio and is also an extremely lightweight model, then the Western Mountaineering UltraLite is an excellent choice for you.

7. Marmot Always Summer – best for warm weather
Top Product
Marmot Always Summer Down Sleeping Bag
Certified 650 Fill Power Down with Down Defender to Improve Water-Resistance in Wet Conditions Hood Draw Cord Nautilus Multi-Baffle Hood Internal Stash Pocket and Heater Pocket in Footbox Stuff Sack Included
Check PriceThere is no better option than the Marmot Always Summer if you are looking for a sleeping bag that delivers optimal performance throughout the warm summer months. This sleeping bag is ideal for use throughout the spring and summer months since it has a temperature rating of 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
Despite the fact that it is advertised as being suitable for use throughout all three seasons, the bag has a higher temperature rating, making it less suitable for use during the winter months.
The bag is outfitted with two zippers: the main zipper, which enables you to get in and out of the bag, and a second, smaller zipper, which offers additional ventilation so that you can get air into your sleeping bag when it is heated.
There is a heated pocket in the foot box that will help to keep your toes warm if you suffer from cold feet during the night, and the down-filled collar with an easy-access drawstring cord provides added comfort and additional warmth if you require it.
If you suffer from cold feet during the night, this product is for you. Because of its higher temperature rating, this sleeping bag is a fantastic piece of kit to add to your camping collection during the warmer months, even if I wouldn’t recommend purchasing it right away for your next trip during the colder months.

8. Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed 700 35° – best for comfort
Top Product
Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed 20
Rated for sleeping conditions up to 20 °F / -6 °C. Patented self-sealing foot ventilation for quick and easy ventilation. Stretch cord closure system helps seal draughts. Patent pending zip-free design for added comfort
Check PriceThere is not a sleeping bag that can compare to the Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed 700 when it comes to accommodating picky sleepers.
This Sierra type functions more like a comforter than a traditional sleeping bag, in contrast to mummy sleeping bags, which, although warmer than the majority of other styles of sleeping bags, are rather limited owing to the tightness of their designs and zippers.
It does not have a zipper, but instead has an ingenious flap that may be used as a closure instead. Therefore, unlike the majority of other versions, it does not tether you to the bag in any way, allowing you to freely climb into and out of it whenever you wish.
Sierra has removed the zippers and replaced them with an elastic rope that assists in maintaining the “comforter’s” position. It is really comfortable and very roomy, and you are free to move around without feeling too constrained by zippers or fabrics that are too tight.
According to a number of the evaluations that I’ve seen on the internet, the elastic cord that is used in the process of regulating how tightly the closing flap is drawn may be a bit of an annoyance.
This sleeping bag only reaches a temperature rating of 35 degrees Fahrenheit, which is considered to be fairly generous, since the cord is too long to enable you to pull it securely enough so that you can trap more heat in (something that a zipper allows you to accomplish much better).
The Sierra Designs Backcountry is the style that you should go for if you want a sleeping bag that is less formal and that performs considerably better in the spring and summer than it does in the wintertime.
- It’s very spacious
- Featuring a spacious foot vent
- The zipper-less closure provides a comfortable fit
- The warmth-to-weight ratio is not the best
Key specs
- Weighs 0.650kg for regular, 0.720kg for long

9. NEMO Kyan 35 – best for wet conditions

Nemo Kyan Mummy Sleeping Bag
FEATHERCORE CONSTRUCTION – Nemo’s proprietary FeatherCore suppresses airflow to increase heat retention; Premium Primaloft Silver synthetic insulation offers the best blend of warmth retention, moisture resistance, and packed volume, all achieved with 70% post-consumer recycled content CHOOSE YOUR COMFORT – When you get too hot, ThermoGills unzip to let out warm air, allowing superior temperature control and added versatility; A generous apparel-like hood offers better heat retention
Check PriceDuring the course of my research for this review guide, which I was doing to guarantee that I would be able to provide you with the very finest sleeping bags that are now available in 2023 I came across the NEMO Kyan 35.
This sleeping bag has received a lot of positive feedback across a variety of online evaluations, and it is widely regarded as one of the very best options for use in settings when there is rain.
This is due to the fact that, as opposed to being filled with down, it is made up of a greater proportion of synthetic insulation. It has outstanding compressibility without sacrificing too much in terms of its ability to insulate against heat.
In spite of the fact that it is advertised to maintain a high level of performance in terms of the warmth-to-weight ratio, I have heard conflicting opinions on this claim. It has been stated by a few individuals that the temperature rating of 35 degrees Fahrenheit is not met by it.
They believe that spring and summer would be the best times to utilize it (but you could use it in the fall as well; just don’t anticipate any miracles if the weather turns out to be unexpectedly chilly).
Ripstop nylon, which is a fabric that is both soft and has a slightly luxurious feel, is used to make the outside of the sleeping bag. The outside fabric of the sleeping bag is made of a material that has a durable water-resistant (DWR) treatment.
It’s possible that it won’t be of much use to you if you’re hiking in the Arctic, but it should be fine for trips through the jungle or the national parks.
- Warmth is retained in wet conditions
- It can be packed down very small
- It’s lightweight even though it’s mostly synthetic
- It doesn’t quite live up to its 35°F rating
Key specs
- Weighs 0.650kg for regular, 0.720kg for long
- Dimensions of the packed product – 18 x 33 cm
- Thermoplastic insulation (down fill) – 850

Things to look out for when buying a new Sleeping Bag
Even though a sleeping bag is not the most glamorous piece of travel gear in the world, it is still an essential item for activities such as camping, backcountry travel, and searching for new and exciting experiences.
It might be a little bit confusing to know what you should be looking out for when it comes to sleeping bags since there are so many top brands of sleeping bags available today, particularly with the surge in the popularity of outdoor activities and adventure sports.
The good news is that I have compiled a list of the things that you need to watch out for when purchasing a new sleeping bag so that you may be well prepared when deciding what to buy before you actually go through with the transaction.
In order to assess whether or not your brand-new sleeping bag will be one of the finest sleeping bags available in 2023, you need to be familiar with the temperature ratings, the weight, as well as the size and fit.
Temperature ratings (EN rating)
A sleeping bag’s temperature rating may be standardized thanks to the EN rating, which is a European standard rating. This rating was developed in Europe.
This indicates that you may use this number to compare two (or more) sleeping bags and see how they vary from each other in terms of how warm they are and how well they are insulated. This can be done for as many sleeping bags as you like.
When doing research on the temperature rating of a sleeping bag, there are two aspects that you should pay attention to the “lower limit” and the “comfort rating.” It’s possible that a sleeping bag rated for 15 degrees Fahrenheit will say it will keep you warm in temperatures as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit, but in most cases, this is just the “lower limit” of its temperature range.
For instance, sleeping bags with EN Lower Limits ranging from 10 degrees Fahrenheit to 30 degrees Fahrenheit are often regarded to be excellent for “three seasons,” namely spring, summer, and fall.
If you plan on using your sleeping bag in the midst of winter, in weather conditions that are very cold, then you may need to acquire more insulated sleeping bags in addition to other clothing and equipment that is suitable for use in cold weather.
Because it is difficult to tell whether or not this measurement of temperature rating is genuinely accurate, the greatest piece of advice that I can give you is to simply conduct a lot of research and collect views from a variety of sites about the EN rating of the sleeping bag that you plan to buy.
Size and Fit
One of the most critical aspects to consider is whether or not your sleeping bag is the right size for you. You need to check if the dimensions of the bag are sufficient to allow you to carry all of your belongings inside while remaining comfortable.
It is common practice for sleeping bags designed for males to be longer and broader than those intended for women. Nevertheless, this does not preclude women from purchasing the same kind of sleeping bag that is intended for men.
A bigger sleeping bag that is designed specifically for males will offer you more space, even if nothing else! You should always be on the lookout for the sizes and dimensions of the sleeping bag, regardless of whether you are a man or a woman, so that you may have peace of mind knowing that you will be able to fit inside it!
Value for money
When it comes to determining which sleeping bags provide the greatest value for money in 2023, your own individual tastes will be the most important factor to consider. You should, ideally, spend your money on a sleeping bag that satisfies all of your requirements while remaining within your price range.
However, there are occasions when this proves to be practically difficult, and as a result, you may have to find a “happy medium” in which you are ready to give up one feature in exchange for a model that is less expensive.
To give you an example, would you be prepared to pay a higher price for a sleeping bag that has a higher ratio of warmth to weight and more insulation? Or are you willing to forego the convenience of a lightweight sleeping bag in favor of purchasing a more cumbersome but far more affordable option?
You are the only one who can decide how much you are prepared to spend on a bed and what you consider to be “excellent value for the money.” If you are going to get a sleeping bag, it is in my opinion, best to spend a little bit more money on a model that you are certain will serve you well for a number of years.
Comfort
You should not only be aware of a sleeping bag’s comfort rating in terms of temperature and its EN rating, but you should also be aware of how comfortable it will be for you to sleep in.
Even if the sleeping bag manages to keep you warm throughout the night, it won’t be of much use if it makes you feel as if you’re resting on hard surfaces rather than those that are padded. The top sleeping bags for 2023 all have a few characteristics in common, including the ability to provide comfort and insulation while also being a good value for the money.
When it comes to camping, comfort is of the utmost importance (at least in my view; there is nothing worse than trekking for 12 hours a day and then attempting to go to sleep in a sleeping bag that is uncomfortable!).
When evaluating the level of comfort provided by a sleeping bag, I often consider the following aspects: the fit and size of the bag, the internal fabric, the presence or absence of a cushioned head area, and the level of noise generated by the material.
These may all sound like very few aspects to watch out for, particularly the noisy ones, but I can guarantee you that having a sleeping bag that rustles in the night whenever you move will not be a pleasant experience.
Down Fill Power
This attribute, which seems very sophisticated, is really only a number that indicates the grade of the down feathers that are used in the construction of a sleeping bag. Therefore, if the sleeping bag has a greater down fill power, it provides more insulation and seems to have more “fluff.”
When shopping for a new sleeping bag, it is important to keep an eye out for all three of these aspects since they are all interconnected and play an important role in defining the temperature rating and the degree of comfort offered by a sleeping bag.
It also indicates that the greatest sleeping bags in 2023 will likely come with a down fill of a better grade, which will result in the bag having a higher price tag.
As a result, you will need to decide if it is worth spending the additional money to guarantee that you have a sleeping bag that is of higher quality, more insulated, and more comfortable for you.
Extra features
The addition of additional features to a sleeping bag does not necessarily indicate that it will “perform” any better than its competitors, but it may make the experience of using the bag a little bit more pleasurable.
For instance, many kinds of sleeping bags, such as the Kelty Cosmic Down 20, are equipped with a pocket for storing a cell phone. Other sleeping bags may come with additional zippers, a hood that can be tightened, or the capacity to zip two sleeping bags together.
As I’ve already said, these characteristics aren’t absolutely necessary to look out for, but they do add a little something extra to your sleeping bag, and they might be the deciding factor between two sleeping bags that are otherwise quite similar.
How to take care of your Sleeping Bag and make it last longer
Since you are aware that sleeping bags are not inexpensive, particularly ones of high quality, it is necessary that you take extra special care of your sleeping bag in order to make it last for a longer period of time.
If you give your sleeping bag the attention and care it deserves, along with ensuring that it is filled with high-quality down, then it has the potential to endure anywhere from 10 to 15 years.
This is a very lengthy period of time, particularly when you take into account the original upfront cost of investing in the sleeping bag; you will get your money’s worth in no time at all!
In order to help ensure that your brand-new sleeping bag stays in the best condition possible and that you can continue to use it in 2023 and beyond, I have compiled a list of my top tips that you can use to take care of your sleeping bag and make it last longer! I hope that these will be helpful to you in achieving these goals!
Sleep with clean clothes on
This is not always a possibility when you’re camping in the wild with limited access to clean water for showering and cleaning your clothes, but where possible, you should always try and sleep with clean clothes on. This will help to reduce the amount of dirt that gets onto your sleeping bag, thus making it last longer!
Use a sleeping bag liner
Despite the fact that I do not consider a sleeping bag liner to be an essential need, I do feel that using one is a fantastic concept that will assist in keeping your sleeping bag “alive” for a longer period of time.
When you use a liner inside of your sleeping bag, the amount of dirt and natural oils from your body that may potentially migrate from your body to the bag while you are sleeping is significantly reduced.
It is a good idea to use a sleeping bag liner since they are much simpler to clean and less expensive to replace than the main sleeping bag. This will allow you to get the most use out of your bag for as long as possible.
Remember to Air your Bag out every use
Another important thing to keep in mind if you want to get the most usage out of your sleeping bag for as long as possible is to let it air out after each use.
This does not have to be done every single morning when you get up, but when you get back from something like a camping trip, for example, you should hang it outside to air or hang it inside in a cool space where it can get air and dry out if it’s a little damp from being outside.
Either way, you should do this. If you do this, it will keep it from getting stinky, and it will also prevent any mold from growing within the sleeping bag as a result of having moist spots inside it.
Wash your Sleeping Bag as little as possible
One last thing to keep in mind about the maintenance of your sleeping bag is that you should strive to wash it as rarely as is humanly possible. It is truly up to your own personal taste since only you can judge how filthy it is and when it has to be cleaned.
The majority of people have advised me to wash my sleeping bag merely once a year, but it is really up to your own personal opinion.
If you find that you need to clean your sleeping bag, my best recommendation is to take it to a dry cleaner (this is particularly true if it is made from high-quality down), or to make sure that you follow the directions that are included inside the sleeping bag itself for how to clean it.
Last but not least, please leave a comment below if you have any queries about these sleeping bags or if you want to offer your own personal evaluation.
